Kelsey Smith Act Passes Minnesota Senate; Now Moves to Conference Committee
Yesterday we announced that the Kelsey Smith Act had passed the Minnesota Senate and was on its way to the governor for signature. The Act did pass the Senate but had a small change to it from the House version of the bill. The Act now goes to a Conference Committee to work out the differences between the House and Senate version. We will keep you updated on the progress of the bill and we are sorry for the incorrect report from yesterday.

AMBER Alert Questions
We receive questions about the AMBER alert program on a frequent basis. While we are not the official representative of the AMBER alert program and can not speak on their behalf, there is knowledge that the public should know about the program.
1. Each state has its own AMBER criteria even though there is a national AMBER protocol.
2. In order to issue an AMBER Alert there must be enough information to report on the victim or suspect, their descriptions, direction of travel, or other substantial facts that the public can look out for.

A Note About Our Polls
The information in our polls is based off the research conducted by the Kelsey Smith Foundation. KSF does not use any source for research that is agenda based. We use actual crime statistic information based on actual data reported by law enforcement agencies.
Keep in mind that our polls are archived and show the responses of those who particpate in them. The archived polls, therefore, do not always reflect the correct answer to the poll. The correct response to the poll is always posted to the website after the poll has closed.

KSF Milestone
The first Safety Awareness Seminar (SAS) was presented in October of 2007 and had 25 participants. Yesterday's SAS at Shawnee Mission West was a milestone for the Foundation. Over 10,000 participants from three states have attended a SAS.
Demand for the SAS continues to grow and the Foundation has added additonal educational programs to augment the original SAS training (See http://www.kelseysarmy.org/about_us for information about the newest programs).
